A licensed counselling session focuses primarily on emotional processing, mental health concerns, and psychological support within a regulated framework. Licensed counsellors are trained and credentialed to diagnose, treat, and document mental health conditions in accordance with professional and legal standards.
A somatic healing session, on the other hand, is a body-based, experiential process rather than a form of psychotherapy. While it can feel deeply therapeutic, it’s not clinical counselling and does not involve diagnosis or treatment of mental disorders. Instead, it focuses on nervous system regulation, embodiment, and building internal capacity to meet life’s challenges.
In essence:
Counselling supports the mind’s understanding and emotional insight.
Somatic healing supports the body’s felt sense of safety and regulation.
The two can complement each other beautifully — many clients find that somatic work deepens and accelerates their therapeutic process.
